PROJECT STATEMENT
Our team seeks to blur the lines between materiality. This can be done by combining contrasting material characteristics such as hard and soft, transparency and opacity, volume and void. The materials we chose to juxtapose are carbon fiber, foam, pvc pipe, soap, cement, and wood. All these materials are either covered, blended, or manipulated to take on tactile and sensory traits that do not belong to the material inherently.
Given such, the use of weaving carbon fiber in this project acts less as a primary building material, but more as a filter through which to view the opposing materiality.
The building materials were set up in a paneler manner to provide the opportunity to combine the materials through the help of joints, details, and extensions of the plane.
Our model is one to experience from all views. The overlapping and interlocking materials blend and merge in various ways from corner to corner. Color and patterning are used to further encourage the materials to merge as well as help bring a sense of interior and exterior to the sizable sculpture .
Challenge the notion of depths. Looks at interwoven spaces to challenge the norms of interior and exterior.
