Sincere Illusion

An initial boundary is interrupted by organic forms, encouraging exploration. These forms then begin to extrude and smear, divulging their artificial nature. The manipulations destabilize in different locations, in some places reverting to their organic charade, and becoming void in others, leaving behind a profile of what was taken. These forms never settle, oscillating between supposed rigidity and plasticity, solid and void, thick and thin. These oscillations allow circulation, but it is discontinuous and inconvenient.
This material betrayal draws a parallel to the hollow nature of the parameters set forth, in which the mission of decolonization was introduced, but not pursued. Entrenched institutions are inherently resistant to change, and will adopt illusions and performances rather than relinquish the systems from which their power derives.
"The master's tools will never dismantle the master's house. They may allow us temporarily to beat him at is own game, but they will never enable us to bring about genuine change" (Audre Lorde 1984)
